Five Minutes to Relieve Daily Stress!

Full Life Balance (FLB) is a way to “Live Better Every Day.”

Live Better Every Day by living a life that is full, healthy, productive, purposeful, and exciting. Depending on who you believe, it takes anywhere from 21 days to 35 days to develop a habit. However, I think the first and most important step in developing any habit is to want to achieve the results the habit promises to bring to your life. If you want to be healthier, happier and more productive the habits below will help you. Follow the process for 5 weeks and you will have better concentration, more physical flexibility, a higher sense of peace, increased self awareness and more productivity.

So, how do you get to Full Life Balance in Five weeks? How do use the Five Keys to Relieve Stress year round. Here are the detailed Tips below week-by-week. (Of course, there is more. Pick up my book for all the proven tips and suggestions.)


1) The Spiritual Key – spiritual contact and perspective (WEEK ONE)

The initial and most important stage of Full Life Balance is spiritual. It gives us life context and perspective.

TIP: FIVE MINUTES OF PEACE EVERY DAY. Most of us are never completely still and quiet. Each morning spend 5 minutes absolutely still and silent. Just focus on your breathing for 5 minutes with no agenda and no rush. It works best if you do it after your FIVE MINUTE STRETCH.


2) The Physical Key – good health=success energy (WEEK TWO)

Remember, it takes energy to live a successful life.

TIP: FIVE MINUTES OF STRETCHING PER DAY. Do the following routine the first thing in the morning coupled with a good breakfast everyday and watch your life, energy, strength and flexibility improve.

DAILY 5 MINUTE FLB STRETCH (REMEMBER: BREATHE DEEPLY)

  • NECK: LEFT/RIGHT; SIDE/SIDE; UP DOWN, CIRCLE L/R — 3x’s
  • SHOULDERS: CIRCLE FRNT/BACK; SEE-SAW — 3x’s
  • ARMS: FRNT LOOP/REAR LOOP; SIDE-UP/DOWN — 2x’s
  • TORSO: LEFT TURN/RIGHT TURN — 3x’s
  • LEGS: WALL PRESS; SIDE HORSE — 2x’s
  • LEGS: LIFTS: FRNT/BACK/LEFT/RIGHT — 5x’s
  • LEGS: SQUAT — 5x’s
  • CORE: CAT POSITION: UP/DOWN — 3x’s
  • ARMS/CHEST: PUSH-UPS — 10x’s
  • CORE: FRNT PLANK — 30 sec                                                   
  • CORE: PELVIC TILT — 30 sec
  • KNEE UP, SIDE TO SIDE, HOLD EACH SIDE — 30 sec
  • CORE: ISOMETRIC SIT-UP — 20

3) The Emotional Key – emotional tenacityengagement (WEEK THREE)

The emotional key may require the most work for most of us and may be the most difficult stage to conquer, but it is critical to your overall balance. You were made to be happy. What is happiness? I believe happiness is the ability to recover from what life throws at you and be ready and excited to enjoy another day, everyday.  And, the Emotional Key is critical to your happiness.

TIP: FIVE MINUTES OF REFLECTION. At the end of each day, take 5 minutes to reflect on the days’ activity in general and your personal interactions in particular. See the people, replay the conversations. Were you what you wanted to be? Learn from it, circle back when/if necessary, close out the day and move on.


4) The Professional Key – personal achievement (WEEK FOUR)

We all have the need and desire to feel professionally accomplished.

TIP: LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERY DAY ABOUT WHAT YOU DO AND/OR ABOUT WHAT YOU WANT TO DO. Find where you thrive and strive relentlessly to get there. A clear written goal, knowledge, skill, contacts and information are indispensable ingredients for your quest. Enough said.


5) The Charitable Key – charitable activity (WEEK FIVE)

Periodically and consistently “Get outside of you”: your life, your stuff, your job. It will enhance your appreciation of your blessings and gifts. Helping others also helps you reset.

TIP: SPEND FIVE MINUTES A DAY THINKING ABOUT THE CHARITY YOU WORK WITH OR TO IDENTIFY, RESEARCH CONTACT THE CHARITY YOU ARE GOING TO WORK WITH.

  • WEEK TWO= WEEK 1 PLUS: 5 MINUTES OF STRETCHING*
